Julia Pope McWhorter 1892-1987
Born in Penfield, Greene County, Georgia, the second of ten children of John Welby McWhorter and Eva Douglas Zuber.
She was salutatorian of the Class of 1910 at Oconee High School, and then attended Georgia Normal and Industrial College in Milledgeville. She taught at Central High School in Farmington, and in the town of Buckhead in Morgan County, Georgia.
Julia left the school system when she was married in 1916 to William Fletcher Robertson who was the son of William Franklin Robertson and Eugenia Frances Davis. Their first home was in Farmington, Georgia until 1918, when Fletcher was drafted and ordered to report to Ft. Gordon. Shortly thereafter, the war ended and they were able to set up housekeeping once again.
Their five children were: Eva Mae (who died in infancy), William Fletcher Jr., Douglas Welby, Charles Francis, and Sara Helen Robertson.
