Born in Trion, Georgia, the daughter of John Welby McWhorter and Eva Douglas Zuber. Minnie never married and after graduating from Georgia Normal and Industrial College worked in her father's office at the "Winder News" in Georgia and a newspaper office in Miami. She also taught school in Trion, Summerville, and Soperton, Georgia before returning to Winder, Georgia where she devoted her retirement years researching the family history. After her death her files were donated to the Georgia Department of Archives and History in Atlanta, Georgia.
