William was born November 22, 1854 the son of Silas Marion Robertson and Martha Jane Middlebrooks.  He was married December 23 1875 to Eugenia Frances Davis, the daughter of John Morgan Davis and Mary Nunnally Malcom and settled near the family homestead in Walton County, Georgia.

Their seven children were: William Fletcher, Johnie Barto, James Alva, Mary Alice, Cora Belle, Silas Marion, and Jessie May Robertson.

After the death of his wife Eugenia, William Franklin married a second wife, Margaret E. O'Kelly Streeter who died six months later. William Franklin married a third time in 1906 to Jana C. Adcock. He died in June of 1916 at sixty-two years of age after an unsuccessuful operation. His fourth wife, Addie survived him.
