The daughter of John and Sarah Benezet of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

She was married in 1843 to William Gibbs Porter, who was the son of Rev. Thomas Porter and Mary Gibbs. They settled in Philadelphia although William continued to carry on his business at Apalachicola, Florida.

The seven children of William and Catherine were: Mary, William G., Sarah R., Catherine P., Fanny, Lewis Rodman, and Helen B. Porter.
