George Henry Ruge 1856-1921

Born in Apalachicola, Florida, the son of Herman Ruge who was a native of Hanover, Germany.

George was married in 1884 to Elizabeth Pepperrell Porter who was the daughter of Richard Gibbs Porter and Mary Tibbits Salter.

Working with his brother , John, they established Florida's first successful commercial oyster packing company, and were early advocates of planting oyster shells near the beds to provide places for the spat to settle when spawning.
