Richard Gibbs Porter 1809-1867

Born at home in Newtown Square in the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the third child of Rev. Thomas Porter and Mary Gibbs.

He was married in 1845 to Mary Tibbits Salter who was the daughter of Benjamin Franklin Salter and Harriet Chase Tibbits. In 1833 he went to Apalachicola, Florida, where he established his residence and became a pioneer businessman engaged in the cotton business as a partner in the firm of William G. Porter & Company.

Their seven children were: Thomas Francis, Richard Henry, Edward Gibbs, Elizabeth Pepperrell, Gilbert Rodman, William Salter, and Richard Gibbs Porter Jr.
