Mathias Henry Iltis 1840-1902
Born in Alsace-Lorraine, France, the son of Mathias Iltis and Maria Baldensperger.His family migrated to America when he was twelve years old and settled in Naperville, Illinois before moving to Minnesota. He was married in 1862 to Mary Baldensperger and worked as a tinner and engaged in the hardware business in Chaska, Minnesota. He served as president of the "Concordia," a group of musicians and actors whose concerts provided culture and entertainment for the community. He assumed management of the National Hotel in Chaska, Minnesota after the death of his brother Peter and afterwards operated the "Iltis Hotel."
