August Ferdinand was born June 18, 1850 in Kratzig, Pomerania, Prussia and died March 14, 1897 at age 46 in St. Paul, Minnesota. August Ferdinand was the son of Carl Gotlieb Manke and Fredericka Reichow.

August Ferdinand was married January 12, 1875 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Crescentia Caroline Mueller who was the daughter of Adolph Mueller and Maria Zobel.
