Rufus
Frederick Bishop 1889-1953
Rufus was born in Bethlehem, PA the son of Edwin Peter Bishop and Helen
Barbara Bealer.
He
went to Moravian College and graduated B.A. then spent a year as clerk
at Bethlehem Steel Co. He got the call to the ministry and went to
Moravian College and Seminary. He graduated, was ordained, then went to
Nicaragua as a missionary for the Moravian Church. There he remained
from 1912 until 1949, when high blood pressure retired him.
On April 19, 1917, he was united
in marriage to Pearl Woosley, R.N., of Winston-Salem, North Carolina,
in the Home Moravian Church
He
worked up and down the east coast of Nicaragua, where Miskito Indian
towns exist and served at Pearl Lagoon, Old
Cape, Wasla, Puerto Cabezas, etc. He
retired to Nazareth, PA to a retired missionary apartment in the
Whitefield House.
