This is down town Scotland Ga. during the great flood of 1925.

Gum Swamp creek can be seen where the trees begin. Left foreground is an Artesian well. Just beyond well is the Southern Ry. Depot and watertank.

Artesian wells were the center piece for all small towns along the railroad in the 1920s-30s from McRae to Brunswick.

An oil street lamp is in right foreground. Note cleats on light pole for climbing up to service the lamp. The wires are railroad telegraph wires.
