Isabel was born November 25, 1825 in Bridgehaugh, Mortlach, Banff, Scotland, the daughter of Charles Anderson and Isabel Bain. She was married November 20, 1851 to Alexander Milne 1817-1876, who was the son of George Milne and Helen Shand.

Their daughter was Helen Milne 1857-1913 who was married to John Howatt 1848-1910.
