The son of James Walker and Sarah Amanda King. Reuben was married in 1866 to Lydia Caroline Quarterman who was the daughter of Edward William Quarterman and Addine Way.

Reuben  was the father of Effie Walker, wife of Rev. William Salter Porter Sr.
